Tamarac is a lovely community located in Broward County, Florida, and is home to a population of roughly 61,000 residents. Tamarac is conveniently located between Miami Beach and Palm Beach, right in the heart of Broward County and just minutes away from some of the area’s big-city amenities including the Fort Lauderdale Airport, the Miami City Ballet, the Sunrise Musical Theater and the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. A fun piece of trivia about the community is that Tamarac was purchased by a young millionaire by the name of Ken Behring, who made his success by opening up a chain of car washes called “Car-A-Mat.” After Behring purchased the area’s senior retirement community and the land around it, he decided to name the new city Tamarac—Car-A-Mat spelled backwards.
Tamarac is home to a number of wonderful parks and recreational programs. And if one craves a bit of the beach, the beautiful beaches of Florida are only a half hour drive away. Nine golf courses also flourish in the area as well as 300 acres of fresh water canals and lakes ripe for fishing and nature trails and bike paths ready for foot traffic.
